10 Awesome Activities To Do
1. Surfing
Whether you’re a pro or a complete beginner, you cannot visit Canggu without going surfing!
Batu Bolong and Canggu Beach are popular locations suitable for beginners and experts alike. There are loads of small companies located along the beach where you can book a surf lesson.
Surf lessons cost around 350,000 IDR (~£17) if you book with a company along the beach. This includes a private instructor and up to 2 hours of surfing!

3. Shopping/ markets
Canggu has loads of great individual boutiques, larger shops, and markets that are perfect for picking up something unique for yourself or your friends.
Tourists absolutely adore Love Anchor Market which is located in the heart of Canggu.
Here you’ll find lots of great handmade items and jewelry, it’ll take a lot of self-control to not spend your daily budget all at once!
4. Get fit!
If you weren’t already aware, Canggu is the fitness hub of Bali and with this strong title, you bet there are a lot of great gyms in the area!
Whether you’re looking for an affordable gym where you can get in a great workout session or want a fully equipped gym suitable for bodybuilding pros, there’s a gym in Canggu for everyone!
Some of my favourite gyms that I visited within varying price ranges include:
- Victory Fitness (50k IDR/ day)
- Pucuk Bali Gym (50k IDR/ day, 175k IDR/ week)
- S2S Crossfit (200k IDR / casual drop-in class, however, has lots of different offers depending on how many times you want to train)

6. Go to a beach club
Spend your days relaxing (or partying) at one of Canggu’s famous beach clubs!
Who doesn’t want to spend an entire day chilling out by a beach, sipping on ice-cold drinks, and overlooking the crystal-clear Indian Ocean?
If this sounds like a bit of you, then I have a few Canggu Beach Club recommendations you should check out!
For party seekers, I couldn’t recommend Finns Beach Club enough. The atmosphere is electric and you’ll for sure be having a boogie the entire day around the pools, as well as in the restaurants!
Atlas Beach Club is also a must-go for true party enthusiasts. At night, Atlas Super Club holds different clubbing events that guarantee an unforgettable experience in Canggu. After all, Atlas Super Club is officially the biggest nightclub in Bali. It’d be rude not to go!
If you’re looking for a more laid-back vibe, then head over to The Lawn Beach Club. This is the perfect place to sip on margaritas from daybeds while watching the sunset over the Indian Ocean.
7. Visit the rice fields

Rice is a staple in Indonesian and Balinese cuisine, with rice farming dating back over 2,000 years! Therefore, a Balinese village would not be complete without rice fields.
If you wander outside central Canggu, you’ll see the stunning rice paddies and the locals working in the fields.
I’ll link directions to a great viewing spot for tourists looking to take in the lush green views and take the perfect photo of the traditional Balinese practice at work.
8. Go on a day trip
Bali is a small island, meaning you can easily spend a day in a different area if you’re restricted by time.
Day trips from Canggu include:
- Seminyak: neighbour to Canggu with beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants, and exciting nightlife
- Nusa Penida: a small island southwest of Bali, with breathtaking views and beaches great for taking the ‘perfect Instagram shot’
- Kintamani: where you can trek up the active volcano Mount Batur to watch the sunrise from the summit (a true once-in-a-lifetime experience)
- Ubud: located in the heart of Bali island, this mystical location is full of great activities including the Sacred Monkey Forest and the Famous Bali Swing!

9. Tanah Lot Temple
This is one of the most extraordinary temples you’ll see in Bali, if not worldwide.
Located on top of an impressive rock formation in the sea, Pura Tanah Lot or Tanah Lot Temple is popular with tourists due to its rich history in the Balinese-Hindu culture (and because it makes for great photos too!).
Built for the sea god Dewa Baruna (or Bhatara Segara), it is believed that this temple, along with other sea temples constructed around the edge of Bali, protects the island from thrashing waves thrown by the sea gods.
It takes around 20 minutes to drive from Canggu to Tanah Lot Temple, you can find directions here. You can either drive yourself or book a cheap taxi ride to the temple depending on what suits you best!
10. Go to the spa
Delve deeper into relaxation by treating yourself to a massage or an entire spa day at one of many amazing Canggu spas!
These are great whether you want a rejuvenating facial, lymphatic drainage massages or even to get a fresh pair of nails! I even got a few cooling treatments to help my skin repair from the powerful Balinese sun rays.
Popular spas in Canggu include:
Top tip: book your appointments in advance to avoid disappointment!
How to get to Canggu
The quickest and easiest way to get to Canggu from the airport is by taxi. You can either book a taxi in advance or find a local taxi driver at the airport (there are drivers to choose from!)
Expect to pay around 200k IDR – 300k IDR (approx £9.40-£14.40).
Depending on the traffic, this can take anywhere between 40 minutes to up to 2 hours during rush hour. You’ll see that Balinese traffic puts all Western traffic jams to shame.
How to get around Canggu
Canggu is easy enough to get around on foot. However, it’s important to note that traffic in Canggu is no joke. Tourists and locals prefer to travel on scooters so the roads can be extremely busy, so pay attention to where you are walking!
If you’re a confident driver then feel free to rent a scooter. This is a super fun and convenient way to get around Canggu. You can rent a scooter from many small businesses located around Canggu. The most affordable scooter options tend to be priced between 60k IDR – 80k IDR (~£2.90-£3.80) a day.
