This post reviews La Roche Posay’s Effaclar skincare as a solution for achieving clear skin.

My skincare journey
My personal skincare journey consists of lots of ebbs and the occasional flow.
I never really struggled with my skin until my first year of university where I experienced my first bout of low-level acne.
However, being a first-year university student of course I would put this down to my abysmal lifestyle factors:
- I drank alcohol frequently throughout the week
- I lived off of quick and easy processed meals
- Would occasionally fall asleep wearing my makeup (I’m cringing as I’m writing this)
- Did not drink enough water
- Did not have an established skincare routine
However, in my final two years at university, I became more interested in health, well-being, and fitness. With this, my skin troubles naturally went away alongside this healthier lifestyle.
The low-level acne returns
Towards the end of my 2022-2023 travels, I moved to Australia and my low-level acne resurfaced.
I spent months patiently waiting for my skin to calm down. After all, I was eating healthy, cleansing my skin day and night, and exercising 5 times a week.
However, my previous solution of living a healthier lifestyle was not working this time.
I needed something more.
One morning, I decided I was going to seek professional advice. I went to my local pharmacy in South Yarra and explained to the pharmacist my skin issues.
This is where he recommended trying La Roche Posay’s Effaclar range.
Admittedly, I didn’t know much about skincare and blindly accepted his advice.
Let me tell you- this pharmacist in the form of an angel gave me the BEST advice I’ve ever received.
I wholeheartedly owe my now clear skin and glowing confidence to La Roche Posay Effaclar. Now let’s dive into how the products work.
Ingredients in La Roche Posay Effaclar
I use the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and the Effaclar Duo cream. What I love about La Roche Posay is that it is packed with active ingredients with a purpose.
Active ingredients with these two products combined include:
- Niacinamide: helps to reduce the appearance of spots
- Salicylic Acid: unclogs pores and gently exfoliates
- Zinc PCA: regulates sebum production
- Glycerin: keeps skin hydrated
The minimalist formula in Effaclar makes it great for sensitive skin, not to mention it is also hypoallergenic.
Does it work?
Instantly after using La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel along with Effaclar Duo cream, my skin felt soothed.
Within weeks I was watching the redness fade and the amount of breakouts reduced significantly.
My skin gradually cleared by using JUST these two products.
Now, it took some time for the scars to fade, but I swear these products work MIRACLES. I’ve been too frightened to use any other skincare brands on my face because it just works too well I didn’t want it to stop.
Take a look at my skin evolution:

Before and after pictures taken a year apart after solely using La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and Effaclar Duo cream.
Only now have I started incorporating new skincare into my routine, however, these are and will forever remain a staple.
Of course, it’s important to mention that everyone’s skin is unique and reacts better or worse to different products. If you need advice be sure to contact a medical professional.
Product recommendations
I can only recommend products that I have used and loved.
I have used solely the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and Effaclar Duo cream in my skincare routine. I’ll add images and link these products below.

I also tried the Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid Suncream during my solo trip to Bali and on my 9-week adventure across SE Asia and Japan earlier this year.

Since I wanted to provide high protection while reducing the chances of irritating my skin, I opted for this La Roche Posay product. I chose this sun cream due to its minimalist hypo-allergenic formula, making it great for sensitive skin.
The result: I didn’t break out once! (At this point, La Roche Posay can take all my money and I’d be fine with it).
On the subject of money, I am aware that this skincare range is slightly on the pricier end of the scale.
However, I am overjoyed with how these products work, personally, it’s a small price to pay to incorporate skincare that actually works into my routine.
How I use the products
In all honesty, I just follow the instructions.
Day and night I’ll begin by slightly wetting my clean hands and adding a pump of the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel.
I’ll rub my hands together to create a lather before gently massaging it into my face and rinsing it with warm water.
After my face is dry, I apply the Effaclar Duo cream all over my face (a little goes a long way with this product).
Et voila– my ridiculously minimalist skincare routine that cleared my low-level acne for good!
Final thoughts
I repeat: I owe my clear skin to the La Roche Posay Effaclar range.
Despite this being a more expensive product range, I view it as an investment into flawless skin in the future.
If you are tempted to try this range, please speak to a medical professional to help you make an informed decision.
