This post lists recommended bestselling self-help books within the fields of mental health, confidence, relationships, and business, to read in 2025.

If 2025 is the year of self-improvement, then look no further than this post.
Here, you will find my top recommended self-help books (many of which also happen to be bestsellers). These books will guide you in improving your self-esteem, relationships, and even the way you think about money.
To help you find the best self-help book for you, I have separated the list into various categories, including:
- Self help books for mental health
- Self help books for confidence & relationships
- Self help books for business & finance
- Self help books for productivity
I have personally read all of these books, and each has improved my life in one way or another, whether that’s by creating a more positive mindset or improving my financial position.
I have also included a FREE printable book tracker, so you can build your own personal development library and keep note of the books you’ve read throughout the year.
So if you’re eager to build a happier, healthier, and more successful life before the end of the year, read on!
Tips For Self Help Book Success
To get the most out of each book, I’d recommend that you:
- Are honest and analyse yourself and behaviours with an open mind (no one here is judging you, just yourself)
- Take notes so that you can review them later on
- Apply the lessons in each book with the full intention of self-improvement (the steps won’t work without 100% effort)
- Read your favourite books more than once! This will allow you to absorb as much of the information as possible and keep the little gems of wisdom at the forefront of your mind
What if I don’t have much time to read?
I get you, and in fact, I’m the same!
This is where I introduce you to my secret little weapon: Amazon Audible.
Audible allows you to listen to books while you’re completing some of life’s more mundane activities such as commuting to work, getting ready, or (my favourite) washing up.
This idea ties in well with the lesson of habit stacking, spoken about by James Clear in Atomic Habits (more on this later).
With my link, you can get a 30-day free trial at Audible, including a free audiobook of your choice (2 free audiobooks for existing Prime members).
Even better? If you cancel after your free trial, you keep your audiobook free of charge!
Self-help Books For Mental Health
1. Instructions for Happiness and Success by Susie Pearl
This book has a special place in my heart.
It was my first self-help book which I gifted and read during the year of my GCSEs.
To some, this may have been a young age to begin their self-improvement journey. However, I still implement the lessons that I had learned throughout this entire book (and go back to reread chapters more than I care to admit).
I truly believe that my mindset would not be so positive and my ability to act with discipline toward my goals without this book. It is the foundation of my own personal development journey.
For first-timers, this book may seem a little out there with some of its concepts. However, if you remain open-minded and test out some of the principles in this book, I am certain that you will see improvements in all areas of your life.
Within the book, Pearl shares clear insights and strategies that can easily be implemented into daily life to promote happiness and success.
Drawing from the principles of positive psychology, Pearl also highlights the significance of cultivating positive emotions, strengths, and relationships for personal growth and fulfilment.
You’ll also discover the importance of goal-setting and marrying this with visualisation to set you on a path to success.
My favourite aspect of Instructions for Happiness and Success is the importance of cultivating a daily gratitude practice to foster a positive outlook and appreciation for life’s blessings. So simple right?!
There are also pages where you can write out your goals, making this a thoughtful gift for a loved one.
2. Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza
If you want a more science-based framework that will genuinely change the way you think, then look no further!
In this book, Dr. Dispenza combines the power of neuroscience and mindfulness to create a guide in reshaping your life, no matter your goal.
You will learn the science behind habits, thoughts, and behaviours and how to break free from existing negative patterns and cultivate new, empowering habits.
The book emphasizes the importance of meditation and mindfulness in transforming one’s life.
Dr. Joe Dispenza also highlights the importance of taking action toward change while encouraging his readers to ‘step into the unknown‘ to allow for new possibilities and experiences.
3. Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon by Dr. Joe Dispenza
As you can probably tell from this post, I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s work.
Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon follows on from Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and delves into the realms of spirituality, neuroscience, and quantum physics to explore the potential for extraordinary experiences within ordinary lives.
Dispenza emphasizes the importance of rewriting the subconscious programming that shapes our beliefs, behaviours, and experiences. Through techniques such as meditation, visualization, and self-reflection, individuals can break free from limiting patterns and create a new reality aligned with their true potential.
There are also many case studies with scientific graphics placed throughout the book. It is honestly mindblowing to learn about what the mind can achieve through the reprogramming of the brain.
4. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
Based on Frankl’s experiences as a Holocaust survivor and psychiatrist, Man’s Search for Meaning offers a profound exploration of human resilience, suffering, and the search for meaning in life.
This book kept me hooked! I read it in just one day during the pandemic.
Through artful story-telling of his own time spent in concentration camps during the Second World War, this book inspires readers to cultivate resilience, embrace their inner freedom, and find purpose in even the most challenging circumstances.
5. The Tools by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels
This book was actually recommended to me by my doctor after I asked for some practical methods I could use to help combat anxiety in my everyday life.
However, this book is not just limited to overcoming anxiety. The 5 tools within this book also help to address other forms of fear, insecurities, anger, and procrastination.
What I loved about this mental health self-help book is its focus on actionable steps you can take to immediately make yourself feel a little more in control and develop your emotional resilience.
If you’re ready to take action and make some serious mental shifts for the better, give The Tools a go.
Self Help Books For Confidence & Relationships
6. The Power of Letting Go by John Purkiss
If you’re someone who struggles with the concept of change then give this book a go.
This self-help book is a guide to releasing attachment to negative emotions, thoughts, and situations to find greater peace, freedom, and fulfilment in life.
Purkiss encourages readers to embrace change as a natural and inevitable part of life. He suggests that letting go of resistance to change allows for greater adaptability and resilience, as well as opportunities for personal growth and transformation.
Purkiss also discusses the significance of detaching from the outcome and surrendering to the flow of life. He suggests that letting go of attachment to specific outcomes allows for greater freedom, spontaneity, as well as growth opportunities.
7. The Courage To Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
This may be my favourite self-help book I’ve read to date, and as the cover suggests, truly did change my life.
The Courage To Be Disliked is written in dialogue between a young student and philosopher and uses Adlerian psychology to challenge conventional beliefs about happiness, relationships, and self-worth.
Despite this book covering complicated topics about life, I find it incredibly easy to read and digest, meaning I’ve already taken away and applied some of its teachings with huge success.
For example, some of the key ideas within this book that I’ve benefited from include learning to detach from the past, setting healthy boundaries to reduce anxiety, and accepting responsibility for my life.
If I could encourage you to read just one self-help book, it would have to be this one!
8. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
This book is a timeless guide to improving interpersonal skills and building meaningful relationships. It is suitable for those who are looking to build stronger relationships, improve their communication methods, and become a more effective leader.
My favourite part about this book is Carnegie’s emphasis on becoming a good listener. He offers advice on how to develop this fundamental skill which is often overlooked by those seeking to create more trustworthy and influential relationships.
Self Help Books For Business & Finance
9. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
Let’s take a shift into the self-help category of personal finance.
I have recently read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyoski and when I tell you everyone’s gran, neighbour and goldfish NEED to read this book to improve their financial situation, I mean it.
Kiyoski shares lessons from his two childhood “fathers”: his poor dad (his biological father who followed traditional career paths) and his rich dad (a self-made millionaire who emphasized financial education and entrepreneurship, and a friend of his biological dad).
This book takes a look at each dad’s mindset toward wealth and examines the differences.
We also learn the importance of distinguishing between assets and liabilities and the power of financial education.
10. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight
For those who are thinking of or have started their own company, this memoir by the founder of Nike, Phil Knight, humbling yet inspiring read.
Through his witty storytelling, Knight shares an honest account of just how many obstacles his company has to overcome to achieve the success that the Nike brand is today.
It is a reminder that even the giants of the world once began from humble beginnings and that with persistence and the right team around you, your ideas truly can flourish in the world.
This was a frankly enjoyable read filled with many laughs as well as heartbreaks (yes I did shed a tear or two).
I cannot recommend enough to a business owner who needs reminding that even the biggest challenges often have solutions, even if they are not what you expect!
11. The Richest Man In Babylon by George S. Clason
Originally published in 1926, this book offers personal financial advice using parables set in the ancient city of Babylon, with its lessons still holding true today.
The Richest Man in Babylon has taught countless individuals the knowledge required to rid themselves of debt and build their wealth with easy-to-follow methods.
The advice within these pages also includes how to save and invest without giving up living comfortably.
Therefore, if you’re serious about taking control of your personal finance situation in 2025, make sure that you carefully study this ancient wisdom conveyed by Clason.
12. Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
In all honesty, this book took me by surprise.
When I first saw Think and Grow Rich, I was expecting to read a conventional ‘how to do business’ book. However, this is so much more.
This book provides crucial insights into how successful individuals like Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison, thought.
You’ll learn exactly how to program your mind to welcome new opportunities that will change your life for the better.
Better yet, anyone can follow these principles to increase wealth and other forms of success in their life. All it takes is a strong desire and knowing what you want from the very beginning!
Self Help Books For Productivity
13. Atomic Habits by James Clear
I’m sure by now you’ve already heard about James Clear’s international best-seller ‘Atomic Habits‘. With over 1 million copies sold worldwide, I can honestly say that it is worth the hype.
This self-help book offers a practical guide to building and sustaining habits that lead to long-term success and personal growth.
‘Habit stacking‘ is a technique introduced by James Clear to make habit formation easier and more effective. The idea behind habit stacking is to leverage existing habits as cues for new habits, thereby creating a chain of actions that become automated over time.
If your goal is to become more productive and get s**t done, then this is the book for you.
14. The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss
I am in the midst of listening to this self-help book as an audiobook and I cannot emphasize enough how many important lessons I have already learned.
Ferriss advocates a lifestyle that prioritises time and fulfillment over traditional ideas of work and success. He encourages readers to define their ideal lifestyle and take proactive steps to achieve it.
My favourite part so far is the 80/20 principle. This states that 80% of results come from 20% of efforts. Ferriss encourages readers to identify and focus on the most productive and high-impact tasks while eliminating or delegating less important activities.
I cannot recommend enough listening to or reading this ground-breaking self-help book to start your journey toward a life of adventure and freedom.
